Morgens lange schlafen, ein Wochenende mal nicht arbeiten, eine Reise machen: Das können Herr und Frau Renken nicht. Wer soll denn dann die Kühe melken?

Ich bin zu Gast auf dem Bauernhof, bei Familie Renken in der Nähe von Oldenburg. Es ist halb acht abends, wir sitzen um den Tisch - Feierabend.
"Wie war denn der Arbeitstag?", frage ich. "Lang, wie gewöhnlich", antwortet Gerd Renken, der Bauer. Das Leben auf dem Bauernhof ist heute nicht mehr so hart wie vor dreißig Jahren. Doch immer noch beginnt der Tag früh für einen Landwirt. Er muss früh aufstehen, auch samstags und sonntags. "Da schlafen die Kühe nicht extra bis acht", weiß Herr Renken. "Heute Morgen um Viertel nach vier, da sind meine Frau und ich aufgestanden. Wir haben eine Tasse Kaffee getrunken und sind dann in den Stall gegangen."Täglich müssen die Renkens 56 Kühe melken. Sie schaffen das jetzt in einer Stunde, mit der Melkmaschine. Früher hatten sie keine und die Arbeit war sehr anstrengend. "Da haben wir noch mit der Hand gemolken", sagt Herr Renken. "Das hat Stunden gedauert, aber meine Eltern haben noch geholfen. Mein Vater ist aber vor vier Jahren gestorben und meine Mutter ist jetzt zu alt."Herr und Frau Renken haben drei Kinder: Wibke (12) und Imke (15) gehen noch zur Schule. Enno, der Sohn, ist 22 und studiert Jura in Münster. So ist er selten zu Hause, die Eltern machen die Arbeit alleine. "Um Viertel vor sieben", erzählt Frau Renken, "hab' ich heute die Mädchen geweckt, dann die Kühe auf die Weide gebracht.
Um sieben Uhr morgens haben wir wie immer zusammen gefrühstückt. Die Mädchen sind dann um halb acht zur Bushaltestelle gegangen.
Am Vormittag hab' ich die Hühner und die Schweine gefüttert, die Wohnung geputzt und aufgeräumt. Und dann die Wäsche: Ich hab' die Waschmaschine gefüllt. Da hab' ich plötzlich "miau" gehört. Zum Glück war der Schalter noch auf "Aus". Ich hab' die Katze natürlich sofort aus der Maschine genommen." Herr Renken macht nach dem Frühstück den Stall sauber und arbeitet dann draußen. "Nach der Stallarbeit repariere ich die Maschinen. Immer muss man da was in Ordnung bringen, und dann kommt die Arbeit auf dem Feld." Um zwei sind die Mädchen aus der Schule zurück, die Renkens essen zu Mittag.
Nach dem Mittagessen schläft Herr Renken normalerweise eine Stunde.
"Heute hab' ich nur eine halbe Stunde geschlafen. Wir hatten viel zu tun. Meine Frau hat am Nachmittag im Garten gearbeitet, und ich war draußen auf dem Feld. Um Vier haben wir Tee getrunken. Danach bin ich kurz im Hühnerstall gewesen. Aber von unseren zehn Hühnern war keins mehr da. Im Zaun war ein Loch. Wir haben sie sofort gesucht und, zum Glück, alle wieder gefunden. Zehn für uns, keins für den Fuchs! Um halb sechs habe ich dann mit den Mädchen die Kühe von der Weide geholt." Abends melken die Renkens wieder und gegen sieben sind sie meistens fertig. Frau Renken macht das Abendbrot.
"Für heute ist Feierabend", sagt ihr Mann und lächelt.
"Oft mache ich abends aber noch Büroarbeit am Computer. Und meine Frau bügelt oder näht. Später sehen wir fern, aber dabei schlafe ich fast immer im Sessel ein."
"Heute bestimmt nicht", meint Frau Renken. "Heute kommt Fußball."
"Erst mal sehen", sagt der Bauer. "Vielleicht spielt Bayern München gut - dann bleib' ich bestimmt wach bis zum Ende."
