Goethe was born on August 28, 1749 in Frankfurt am Main. His family was rich and respected in the city. His parents were fundamentally different in their nature. In any case, the mother had a much greater influence on the young Goethe than the father. She loved her son above all else. Their colorful fairy tales inspired him.<br><br>Goethe did not attend school, he was taught by house teachers. <br><br>As a child, he wrote his first poems. He processed his feelings and fears in his works.<br><br>Goethe studied law first in Leipzig and then in Strasburg. He also studied natural sciences and medicine. He spent three years in Leipzig. This is where the lyrical poems, known as "Songs for Käthchen Schönkopf", were written. They are resonant and passionate. <br><br>From 1768 to 1777 Goethe fell seriously ill. But he was lucky, recovered and was able to continue his education. During this time he wrote many poems. This was the time of great poetry. Songs in the folk tone alternated with hymns in free rhythms.
